Fibroids are classified by their location
- Intramural fibroids form within the uterine muscle wall.
- Submucosal fibroids protrude and enlarge into the uterine cavity.
- Subserosal fibroids may be linked by small tissues project to the outside of the uterus.
It may develop outside the uterus depending on location and organ. It is further classified as:
- Cervical fibroid: That arises from the cervix (lowermost part of the uterus)
- Broad ligament: Peritoneum covering surrounding of the uterus)
- Vagina: Emerging from the vaginal wall muscular layers
- Wandering fibroids: These may arise as part of a complication of previous surgery of fibroid-where pieces left from previous surgery start growing at any place inside tummy.
- It may be from the abdominal wall, ureter, vessel wall, liver, intestinal wall, etc.
